Non-Compliance Description:

HATS category VIII, stunning effectiveness At 1555 hours I observed the slaughter employee attempt to stun a beef using a 22-caliber rifle. From where I was safely standing in the smoke house room, I was able to verify that the beef remained standing following the first stun attempt. The employee immediately applied a second stun, which effectively rendered the beef unconscious.  I observed the stun operator then apply a security stun.  After bleeding the beef, the head was skinned, and I observed 3 penetrating holes in very close proximity to each other in the target area. I applied US Reject tag #B38176069 to the stunning box. I verbally notified the establishment management that a noncompliance record would be forthcoming.  The District Veterinary Medical Specialist was contacted through supervisory channels.  There have been no noncompliance records issued for the same root cause within the past 90 days.

Non-Compliance Description:

HATS Category VIII, stunning effectiveness At approximately 10:40am, I, CSI REDACTED, heard the stun operator discharge the first stun attempt with a firearm at a beef within the stun box. I observed, from the shadow, that the beef was still standing & throwing its head around but no vocalization. The stun operator applied a second stun attempt with the firearm and the beef remained standing but no vocalization and immediately a third stun attempt was applied with the firearm and the beef dropped to the floor and was rendered unconscious. I applied U.S. reject tag #B38176064 to the stunning chute. After skinning the head, I inspected the dressed head and observed only 2 penetrating stun holes, one low and to the left of the target area and one in the target area.
