Non-Compliance Description:

On Thursday, March 10, 2022 at approximately 8:00 a.m., while performing a routine ante-mortem livestock inspection, a non-compliance was observed in the animal holding pens. "Pen 10" on the west side of the alley way, just north of the knocking box gates, a large piece of metal was hanging off the gate. This piece of metal was approximately 3 feet long by 1 foot high, near the footing of the pens, attached to a gate. No animals were present in this pen, therefore no injury to livestock could occur. I applied a US Reject tag to the pen, and immediately notified kill floor supervisor REDACTED of the non-compliance. REDACTED understood the issue, and directed the maintenance man to remove the metal and repair the area before any animals were held there. The pen was immediately repaired and satisfactory for use upon my re-observation. I then removed the reject tag and notified REDACTED that the pen was acceptable for animal holiding. Failure to comply may result in further regulatory action.
