At approximately 0756 hrs. while performing Humane Handling Task, the following non-compliance was observed: During hog slaughter, the plant slaughter operator used a captive bolt instrument. The operator fired the captive bolt, making contact, and it did not render the animal insensible. The market hog remained standing, had intentional eye movement, and was vocalizing. The slaughter operator immediately fired the back-up .22 caliber firearm, rendering the hog unconscious. No tag or work stoppage was applied, since corrective action was immediately taken. The Market swine had two entry points. Plant owner, Ms. REDACTED, was notified of the action.
