Non-Compliance Description:

On Tuesday October 19th, 2021 at approximately 9:45 AM at GA Small Ruminant Research and Ext Center Ag Research College of Ag (Establishment# M21741), IPP observed a humane handling non-compliance during routine slaughter of swine. 1 barrow was moved into the stunning area. The employee used a captive bolt to attempt to render the pig unconscious. The first blow to the pig’s head failed to render it unconscious. The pig continued to stand, vocalized, and a small amount of blood was noted coming from the captive bolt hole. The employee took immediate corrective action and delivered a second blow successfully rendered the pig unconscious. This non-compliance violates code of federal regulation 313.15 (a) (1). On postmortem examination it was confirmed that there were two points of entry into the pig’s skull.
