On 08/05/25 at GA Small Ruminant Research Center (M21741) at approximately 10:21 AM, IIC observed the following noncompliance during routine slaughter of pigs while performing stunning verification. The first shot with the captive bolt did not render the sow unconscious. The sow vocalized and purposeful eye movement was noted. The stunner took immediate corrective action by administering a second captive bolt shot. This shot successfully rendered the sow unconscious. This is noncompliant with 9 CFR 313.15 (a) (1). Plant management was notified of the noncompliance. Two bullet holes were confirmed on postmortem inspection.

On 01/14/25 at GA Small Ruminant Research Center (M21741) at approximately 10:00 AM, IIC observed the following noncompliance during routine slaughter of sheep while performing stunning verification. The first shot with the captive bolt did not render the ram unconscious. The ram remained standing and blood was seen coming from the head. The stunner took immediate corrective action by administering a second captive bolt shot. This shot successfully rendered the ram unconscious. This is noncompliant with 9 CFR 313.15 (a) (1). Plant management was notified of the noncompliance. Two bullet holes were confirmed on postmortem inspection.
