At 0958 on 9/22/22, while performing the HATS Category VIII, Stunning Effectiveness I, CSI REDACTED observed the following noncompliance. The employee in the knocking area attempted to render a hog unconscious with a captive bolt. His first attempt of knocking, the captive bolt contacted the animal which then the animal dropped but the animal remained conscious, as indicated by its continued movement of the head and eyes tracking. The employee immediately applied a second knock which was unsuccessful in rendering the animal unconscious, a third and final knock was applied which was successful in rendering the animal. I immediately informed establishment owner REDACTED, whom I then informed that a noncompliance record would be issued. The establishment has failed to comply with 9 CFR 313.15(a)(1).

HATS Category VIII: Stunning Effectiveness On 3/1/2022 at approximately 1420 hours while performing a Humane Handling Verification Task, HATS Category VIII, CSI REDACTED observed the following noncompliance: The establishment employee performing the stunning procedure on a steer with a firearm failed to effectively stun the animal in a single attempt. After being notified of the imminent discharge of the firearm, IPP went into the processing room, returning afterwards. Upon return, the animal was still observed to be conscious and upright. Upon being notified of a second attempt, IPP once again went into the processing room and returned after the discharge. The second attempt successfully rendered the animal unconscious. REDACTED was immediately notified of the noncompliance with 9 CFR 313.16(a)(1) and forthcoming NR.

HATS Category VIII: Stunning Effectiveness On 11/29/2021 at approximately 1245 hours, during the performance of a Humane Handling Assessment, the following noncompliance was observed by Dr. REDACTED, DVMS: The establishment employee performing the stunning procedure on a lamb with a powder charge captive bolt gun failed to effectively render the animal unconscious on the first attempt. The bolt was observed penetrating the skull of the animal, however the animal remained conscious and alert. A second stunning attempt was immediately performed, which successfully rendered the animal unconscious. Establishment Owner, Mr. REDACTED, was immediately notified of the noncompliance with 9 CFR 313.15(a)(1) and forthcoming NR. REDACTED, CSI-IIC on behalf of Dr. REDACTED, DVMS.
