HATS Category III- Water and Feed Availability On Tuesday August 15, 2023 at 7:15am while performing a routine Humane Handling Verification Task, the following noncompliance was observed: In the outside pens there were beef animals in pens 1 and 2 with no access to water. There are 11 bulls/steers in pen 1 and 10 dairy cows/heifers in pen 2. The water is kept in a cement trough that runs between the two pens. It was completely empty for both pens. I notified the plant owner of this noncompliance. After the plant took corrective actions, the pens were reinspected and found acceptable at 8:00am. This is not in compliance with 9 CFR 313.2(e).

HATS Category IV: Handling During Ante Mortem Inspection On Thursday July 6, 2023 at 7:00am while inspection was performing a routine humane handling verification task, the following noncompliance was observed: Inspection personnel noted that in pen 6, three lamb’s heads were entrapped in the metal fencing material that is being used as a hay rack. The lambs were not vocalizing or showing signs of stress. The lambs were released and unharmed at that time. On June 22, 2023, an MOI with Plant Manager, Mr. REDACTED, noted concerns that lambs could be entrapped in the wire panels being used as hay mangers in the pens, and that he planned to replace them. Inspection personnel informed Plant Manager, Mr. REDACTED, of this noncompliance. This is not in compliance with 9 CFR 313.1(a).

HATS Category III- Water and Feed Availability On Tuesday March 7, 2023 at 7:20am while performing a routine Humane Handling Verification Task, the following noncompliance was observed: In front of the barn there were two dairy cows in a pen with no access to water. The water dish was upright but tilted slightly and had a very small amount of yellow liquid in the lower side of the dish. I notified the plant owner of this noncompliance. HATS Category III- Water and Feed Availability On Monday January 23, 2023 at 7:30am while performing routine Humane Handling Verification tasks, the following noncompliance was observed: In the barn, there were two pens with no water available to the animals. Pen 3 has about 25 goats and pen 5 has about 35 lambs present. The water buckets in both pens were upright but completely empty and dry. I notified the plant owner of this noncompliance. After the plant took corrective actions, the pens were reinspected and found acceptable at 8:24am. This is not in compliance with 9 CFR 313.2(e). This has been linked to a recent noncompliance record for Category III from 12/27/22.

HATS Category III- Water and Feed Availability On Tuesday December 27, 2022 at 7:45 am while performing a routine Humane Handling Verification Task, the following noncompliance was observed: In the barn, there were 3 pens with no water available to the animals. The waters in pens 1, 2, and 7, were completely frozen solid. Pen 1 had about 15 goats, pen 2 had about 15 lambs, and pen 7 had 5 veal calves present. I notified the plant owner of this noncompliance. After the plant took corrective actions, the pens were reinspected and found acceptable at 8:50am. This is not in compliance with 9 CFR 313.2(e).
