Non-Compliance Description:

On August 2, 2023, at approximately 0715 hours while performing verification observations for HATS Category III Water and Feed Availability the following noncompliance was observed: A Longhorn Beef in Pen 3 was unable to access the small automatic water in the corner of the pen. Due to the size of the horn mass on the animal it was unable to access the water. I informed Plant Owner REDACTED of the non-compliance, and he immediately took several buckets of water to the animal and placed in location the animal could access the water. I informed Mr. REDACTED that a NR would be issued. The plant was in violation of regulation 9 CFR 313.2(e) which states: 3Animals shall have access to water in all holding pens and, if held longer than 24 hours, access to feed. There shall be sufficient room in the holding pen for animals held overnight to lie down. There have been no associated NRs documented within the past 90 days.
