On 03/24/2023 at approximately 0810 hours while performing an ante-mortem task, I observed the following non-compliance. The drain located in the walkway of the ante-mortem pens was not completely covered. I observed an animal stepping on the grate, which caused it to lift away from the drain, leaving it open. I immediately notified REDACTED, Supervisor of the non-compliance. No USDA reject tag was placed because management immediately placed a temporary cover over the drain.

On this date of 12/27/2022 I was observing slaughter operations at Hyde Farms #47711. The fourth cow was put into the knock box at about 0850 hours. The animal was on the small side, the establishment was having a hard time getting the animal into the head restraint. After a few minutes of trying to restrain the animal to no avail; Plant Owner, REDACTED fired one round. The animal remained conscious, moving within the knock box. The animal had eye movement and was vocal, moving his head and body within the knock box. The establishment delivered an immediate second stun which rendered the animal unconscious and it remained so thereafter. USDA Rejected Tag B-45643502 was applied to the knock box. Establishment Owner, REDACTED was notified of the non-compliance.
