Non-Compliance Description:

HATS Category VIII: Stunning Effectiveness On March 9, 2023, at approximately 09:44 hours while inspecting carcasses on the final rail, inspector REDACTED heard a pig vocalizing after the captive bolt. The slaughter employee immediately yelled gun and administered the shot from the preloaded firearm to render the animal unconscious. The head of the pig was examined, and it was observed that there was a hole at the top of the forehead area consistent with the ineffective stun that did not fully penetrate the skull. A second appropriately placed fully penetrating hole was observed with the effective shot from the firearm. Inspector REDACTED then notified REDACTED, kill floor Supervisor that the establishment will be receiving a humane handling noncompliance for not rendering the animal unconscious with the first shot.
