Non-Compliance Description:

On December 11th, 2023, around 2pm, while preforming HATS category VI (electric prodding), I, Dr. REDACTED observed the following noncompliance. I was standing by the suspect pen where the pigs are checked in for antemortem inspection, when I heard a pig squealing up in the alleyway prior to restrainer. When I looked up, I saw barn lead REDACTED using the electric prod on a pig, causing the pig the squeal. This electric prod is attached to the wall where the voltage is monitored not to exceed 50 volts. I watched REDACTED shock this pig over 20 times in an attempt to get it into the restrainer. The pig squealing from the excessive prodding got the attention of barn QC REDACTED REDACTED got REDACTED attention and shook her finger at him to stop the prodding. REDACTED yelled back to REDACTED in Spanish and continued to shock the pig to get it into the restrainer. The pig squealed loudly every time the electric prod was used on it. After seeing REDACTED ignore the barn QC, I then went to QC manager Mr. REDACTED and informed him of my observations. I notified Mr. REDACTED that a noncompliance report would be forthcoming.
