HATS Category VIII- Stunning Effectiveness At approximately 1034 hours on July 1, 2024, while performing a HATS verification task for stunning effectiveness at Hemingway Locker Plant, Est. M34181, I (Dr. REDACTED SPHV) observed that the first stun on a hog did not effectively render the hog unconscious. The hog remained standing, vocalized, and had blood running down its face. The associate handled two different captive bolts and moved multiple times to stun the hog; however, the hog was moving forward and backward in the stun chute, so the associate had trouble placing the captive bolt. After several minutes, the associate effectively stunned the hog. I applied USDA Reject tag #B36817709 to the knock box and verbally notified Mrs. REDACTED of the noncompliance. I then notified Dr. REDACTED and the DVMS of the noncompliance.
