HATS Category VIII: Stunning Effectiveness On 04/29/25 at approximately 0945 hours, I, CSI REDACTED, while performing a Livestock Humane Handling Verification Task at Brick Church Meats & More, Est. M1893, observed the following. Establishment personnel moved a bovine into the knock box and restrained with the head catch. The stun operator delivered an initial stun attempt via Handheld Captive Bolt Device (HHCB), which was observed to contact the animal, but was ineffective, as the animal remained standing. The stun operator retrieved the backup HHCB device and delivered an immediate and effective corrective action stun, rendering the animal insensible, and it remained so thereafter. I then placed a U.S. Rejected tag (NO. B37373588) on the knock box and informed establishment management REDACTED and REDACTED of the observed non-compliance and of the regulatory control action.

HATS Category VIII: Stunning Effectiveness On October 22, 2024 at M1893 Brick Church Meets, at approximately 0850, I, CSI REDACTED, observed a plant employee compliantly move a cow into the chute and then into the knock box, and restrained with the head catch. The employee then fired the initial stun attempt with a handheld captive bolt device, which was observed to contact the animal, but was ineffective, as the animal remained standing with tracking eye movements. The employee then reloaded the captive bolt gun and delivered an immediate and effective corrective action stun, rendering the animal insensible, and it remained so thereafter. Establishment owners REDACTED and REDACTED were notified of the non-compliance and USDA Reject tag B37373607 was placed on the knock box.
