Non-Compliance Description:

On April 15, 2025 at approximately 0800 hours while performing a Humane Handling observation task, FSIS CSI observed the following noncompliance. In the doorway where the cows enter from the holding pens and into the building and the knock box, I observed a sharp piece of metal where the siding of the building and doorway had been bent. The sharp metal piece was sticking out about one quarter (1/4) of an inch at its peak. One cow had already been loaded into the knock box, when the animal passed through the doorway, the animals side was scraped/cut causing its hide and hair to be rolled up onto the sharp protruding object. I immediately took Regulatory Control Action and had the establishment stop loading animals into the pen leading to the entrance and remained in the area until the metal was repaired. No US Reject/Retain tags were used since I remained in the area and released the area at 0815 hours. The establishment failed to ensure that Pens, driveways, and ramps must be maintained in good repair. They must be kept free from sharp or protruding objects that can cause injury.
