Non-Compliance Description:

On 12/23/22 at approximately at 0628 hours, I CSI-REDACTED while performing the PHIS Procedure for a routine GCP Verification task, I observed the following: A pile of Dead On Arrival (DOA), approximately 70 chicken carcasses, on the east side floor in the Live Hang area, I found two live birds in a gray container comingling with the DOA birds. Similarly, a third live bird was found in the second gray container, also co-mingling with DOA birds in the container. The live birds were revealed to the Processing Manager, REDACTED and was notified about the GCP noncompliance. The live birds were immediately re-introduced back to production process by the Processing Manager, REDACTED According to Sanderson Farms Procedure book on Animal Welfare, it states in step #4, “Live birds will not be placed in a DOA container.” The establishment failed to follow their own procedures. This noncompliance represents a failure of the establishment to comply with the 9 CFR 381.65(b).
