In 2021, Sudan had the highest annual inflation rate (382.82%) as measured by the consumer prices index, followed by Zimbabwe (98.55%), and then Ethiopia (26.84%). Chad had the lowest annual inflation rate (-0.77%) in Africa in 2021.
The World Bank defines inflation measured by the consumer price index as "the annual percentage change in the cost to the average consumer of acquiring a basket of goods and services that may be fixed or changed at specified intervals, such as yearly".
