In 2022, Zimbabwe had the highest annual inflation rate (104.71%) as measured by the consumer prices index, followed by Sierra Leone (27.21%), and then Burundi (18.8%). Republic of Congo had the lowest annual inflation rate (3.04%) in Africa in 2022.
The World Bank defines inflation measured by the consumer price index as "the annual percentage change in the cost to the average consumer of acquiring a basket of goods and services that may be fixed or changed at specified intervals, such as yearly".
