According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in July 2002, the United States not seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U): Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA-NH was 195.7 and the 12-month percent change (inflation rate) was 6.8%. The following item categories had the highest not seasonally adjusted 12-month percent change in CPI-U:

  1. Owners' equivalent rent of residences: 8.1%
  2. Rent of primary residence: 7.1%
  3. Food away from home: 6.5%
