According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in July 2003, the United States not seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U): Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA-NH was 203 and the 12-month percent change (inflation rate) was 5.7%. The following item categories had the highest not seasonally adjusted 12-month percent change in CPI-U:

  1. Household energy: 18.6%
  2. Motor fuel: 9.9%
  3. Alcoholic beverages: 7.8%
