According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in September 2003, the United States not seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U): Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA-NH was 206.8 and the 12-month percent change (inflation rate) was 7.3%. The following item categories had the highest not seasonally adjusted 12-month percent change in CPI-U:

  1. Motor fuel: 24.7%
  2. Household energy: 17.1%
  3. Alcoholic beverages: 10.1%
