According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in May 2005, the United States not seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U): Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA-NH was 214.6 and the 12-month percent change (inflation rate) was 6.1%. The following item categories had the highest not seasonally adjusted 12-month percent change in CPI-U:

  1. Motor fuel: 17.5%
  2. Household energy: 17%
  3. Food away from home: 5.4%
