According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in March 2008, the United States not seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U): Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA-NH was 233.084 and the 12-month percent change (inflation rate) was 5.3%. The following item categories had the highest not seasonally adjusted 12-month percent change in CPI-U:

  1. Motor fuel: 26.3%
  2. Alcoholic beverages: 11.6%
  3. Household energy: 10.4%
