According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in November 2008, the United States not seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U): Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA-NH was 232.354 and the 12-month percent change (inflation rate) was 4.2%. The following item categories had the highest not seasonally adjusted 12-month percent change in CPI-U:

  1. Alcoholic beverages: 11.3%
  2. Food away from home: 10.1%
  3. Food at home: 7.9%
