According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in January 2009, the United States not seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U): Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA-NH was 230.806 and the 12-month percent change (inflation rate) was 2.8%. The following item categories had the highest not seasonally adjusted 12-month percent change in CPI-U:

  1. Alcoholic beverages: 10.9%
  2. Food away from home: 10%
  3. Food at home: 6.7%
