According to recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, in May 2016, the United States not seasonally adjusted Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (CPI-U): Boston-Cambridge-Newton, MA-NH was 260.809 and the 12-month percent change (inflation rate) was 2.2%. The following item categories had the highest not seasonally adjusted 12-month percent change in CPI-U:

  1. Food away from home: 5.8%
  2. Rent of primary residence: 3.4%
  3. Owners' equivalent rent of residences: 3.3%
