According to the data from the US 2020 decennial Census, as at April 2020, there were 74,595 people who identified as Non-Hispanic - American Indian and Alaska Native Alone in South Dakota, which was 8.41% of the total South Dakota population.

Oglala Lakota County had the highest number of people who identified as Non-Hispanic - American Indian and Alaska Native Alone (12,530), followed by Pennington County (10,927), and Todd County (8,122). On the other hand, the three counties with the least number of people who identified as Non-Hispanic - American Indian and Alaska Native Alone were: Hanson County (6), Miner County (8), and Sully County (10).
