According to the data from the US 2020 decennial Census, as at April 2020, there were 2,107,526 people who identified as Non-Hispanic - Black or African American Alone in North Carolina, which was 20.19% of the total North Carolina population.

Mecklenburg County had the highest number of people who identified as Non-Hispanic - Black or African American Alone (324,832), followed by Wake County (204,535), and Guilford County (179,423). On the other hand, the three counties with the least number of people who identified as Non-Hispanic - Black or African American Alone were: Graham County (46), Mitchell County (50), and Clay County (60).

When it comes to the percentage of each county's population that identify as Non-Hispanic - Black or African American Alone, Bertie County had the highest percentage (59.52%), followed by Hertford County (56.68%), and Edgecombe County (55.83%).
