According to the US Census Bureau estimates, in 2011, the death rate for the United States was 8.09. West Virginia had the highest death rate (11.8), followed by Alabama (10.19), and Arkansas (10.04). On the other hand, Utah had the lowest death rate (5.37), followed by Alaska (5.46), and Colorado (6.3).

Death Rate refers to the average annual number of deaths during a year per 1,000 population at midyear.
