United States Net Domestic Migration Rate By State in 2020

According to the US Census Bureau estimates, in 2020, Idaho had the highest net domestic migration rate per 1,000 population (16.75), followed by Arizona (14.33), and Nevada (11.3). On the other hand, Alaska had the lowest net domestic migration rate per 1,000 population (-10.9), followed by New York (-10.51), and Hawaii (-9.48).

Net Domestic migration rate for a given state refers to the the difference between the number of people moving to the state from other parts of the United States (excluding Puerto Rico) and the number of people moving out of the state to other parts of the United States (excluding Puerto Rico) per 1,000 of the mid-year population of the state.
