According to the US Census Bureau estimates, in 2018, the net migration for Virginia was 7,868. Loudoun County had the highest net migration (5,109) followed by Chesterfield County (3,815), and Stafford County (2,073). On the other hand, Fairfax County had the lowest net migration (-9,121), followed by Virginia Beach city (-2,446), and Alexandria city (-2,402).

Net migration for a county refers to the difference between the number of migrants, both domestic and international, moving to the county and those leaving the county. Or to put it simply, the net migration for a given county is the inbound migration minus the outbound migration for that county.
