United States Net Migration By State in 2017

According to the US Census Bureau estimates, in 2017, the net migration for the United States was 948,392. Florida had the highest net migration (325,887), followed by Texas (181,021), and Washington (94,841). On the other hand, New York had the lowest net migration -118,722, followed by Illinois (-84,644), and California (-28,235).

Net migration for a state refers to the difference between the number of migrants, both domestic and international, moving to the state and those leaving the state. Or to put it simply, the net migration for a given state is the inbound migration minus the outbound migration for that state.
