Category VIII Stunning Effectiveness At approximately 9:40 I observed plant management administer 3 ineffective stun attempts with a firearm to a bovine, as evidenced by the animal remained standing. Plant personnel left the kill floor to recruit another employee to stun the animal. Plant personnel returned with a different firearm and rendered the animal insensible on the fourth stun attempt, and it remained so thereafter. The area was tagged and plant management was notified of the non-compliance and regulatory control action.

HATS Category VIII - At approximately 12:30 I observed plant management administer an ineffective 1st stun attempt to a bovine. After the first shot hit the animal, it did not go down but remained standing and conscious. The second shot effectively rendered the animal unconscious, supported by the collapse of the animal. The animal did not regain consciousness thereafter. Plant management personnel REDACTED was notified. The area was Rejected and tagged.

HATS Category VIII- Stunning Effectiveness- While observing plant operations at 12:45 PM in the kill area, I observed plant personnel administer three shots to a beef cow with a firearm. The animal went down after the third shot. The employee stuck the animal to bleed and the animal then stood up and bellowed (vocalized). No additional stun attempts were observed and the animal subsequently expired. The area was rejected with USDA Reject Tag (B30299685) and plant management was notified.
