At approximately 0800 hrs. while observing conditions in the outside pens ,I observed the following noncompliance: An animal, steer, have no access to water in the holding pen , the water container was completely dry .The animal is supposed to be slaughter on Friday 02/04/22 and was received on 02/01/21.Management immediately initiated corrective actions when informed. Mr. .REDACTED was informed of failure to meet 313.2(e)
313.15(b)(1)(iii)
On 12/3/21 at 1300 Hr. while observing the stunning of sows at the establishment, I noted the plant had put two sows in the stun box at one time and then proceeded to stun both in the box at the same time. I told Plant Owner REDACTED that this was not allowed, since the stunned animal may kick, etc., injure the other live animal in this stun box. The stun box was designed to restrain cattle, however the design does not allow for the proper restraining of porcine. I also noted that the metal wall leading into and at the stun box had broken/jagged metal. I had issued a non-compliance (YAY118070829N/1) on 7/29/21 to address this issue and the NR remains open with no response or correction. I have notified REDACTED of this non-compliance. This is a violation of 9 CFR 313.15(b)(1)(iii).
