HATS Category VIII: Stunning Effectiveness On September 26, 2022, at Summit Meats, Est. #48210, while performing Humane Handling Verification Tasks, at approximately 11:03AM., establishment personnel moved a hog into the knocking box. An initial stun attempt with a hand held captive bolt device was delivered and observed to contact the animal, but was ineffective, as the hog remained standing and vocalizing. The stun operator repositioned the animal and used a sorting board to restrain the hog, and delivered an immediate and effective corrective action stun from the same stun device, rendering the animal insensible, and it remained so thereafter. The stunning chute was rejected using Tag # B-31985771. Establishment owner, Mr. REDACTED was notified of the regulatory control action and the non-compliance.
