HATS Category VIII Stunning Effectiveness On 8/29/2022 at approximately 1002 hours while performing HATS verification activities on the Kill Floor I, CSI REDACTED, observed establishment personnel attempt to stun a hog. The initial stun was made using a 40 caliber pistol and was ineffective as the animal remained standing. The stun operator steadied himself and delivered an immediate and effective corrective action stun, with the same stun device, which rendered the animal insensible, and it remained so thereafter. The knock box was tagged with U.S. Rejected/Retained Tag #B20050530 and establishment Kill Floor Lead REDACTED was notified of the noncompliance.

HATS Category III - Water and Feed Availability: On 07/13/2022 at approximately 0930 hours while performing the Humane Handling task I, CSI REDACTED, observed the following noncompliance. I observed 2 cows with no access to water. I observed the water tub was tipped over and appeared empty. REDACTED, Owner, was notified of the noncompliance with 9 CFR 313.2(e). Immediate corrective actions were taken by the establishment to provide water.

The water trough/barrel in the pen was empty. Immediate corrective actions were taken by the establishment to provide water. On 03/15/2022, at approximately 1300 hours while performing ante-mortem inspection at Snapp's Ferry Packing Co. in Afton, TN, I, CSI REDACTED, observed five hogs were being held in the second pen with no cover over floor drain thereby leaving the drain open and the animals are at risk for accidental injury. Category VIII: Stunning effectiveness At approximately 1330 hours I, CSI REDACTED, observed the following noncompliance. A cow was put into the knocking box and restrained with the head catch. REDACTED, kill floor lead person, administered an initial stun attempt from a .40 caliber pistol. The head restraint was released, but the attempt was ineffective, as evidenced by the the cow immediately stood back up and turned around in the knock box. Mr. REDACTED positioned himself over the cow and delivered immediate and effective corrective actions with the same firearm, which rendered the animal insensible, and it remained so thereafter. I affixed US Reject/Retain tag #B16115089 to the knock box, and notified plant management of the non-compliance and regulatory control action. This NR is linked to NR QSF0714124308N.

HATS Category VIII Stunning Effectiveness At approximately 1415 hours, while performing HATS verification activities in the slaughter area I, CSI REDACTED, observed plant employee, REDACTED, attempt to stun a cow with a 40 caliber pistol. The animal was noted to be excitable and vocalizing as it was moved into the knocking box. The initial stun attempt was ineffective as the animal remained standing and continued vocalizing. REDACTED, Establishment Owner, retrieved the firearm, and delivered an immediate and effective corrective action stun attempt, which rendered the animal insensible and it remained so thereafter. The knock box was immediately tagged with US Reject/Retain tag # A5434976 and Mr REDACTED was notified of the non-compliance.
