At approximately 1500, while performing the Livestock Humane Handling task, the following noncompliance was observed: 31 sheep and goats were presented to USDA for antemortem inspection. Upon inspection, a goat was observed lame in its right back leg. Upon moving the animals so USDA personnel could inspect them from both sides, the goat went down. Several sheep ran over the goat while USDA tried to intervene and instructed the plant to stop moving the sheep so that the goat could be addressed. Plant Manager REDACTED was notified of the noncompliance.

At approximately 1450, while performing the Livestock Humane Handling task, I observed the following noncompliance: One of the workers was observed moving a goat from the transport trailer onto the slaughter trailer by grabbing the skin over the goat’s shoulders, lifting them up by the skin off the ground, and walking with the goat lifted onto the slaughter trailer which failed to minimize excitement. Regulatory action was taken to stop the process and the floor supervisor, REDACTED, was informed of the noncompliance and REDACTED, plant owner, was notified when he was back on site.
