Non-Compliance Description:

On Tuesday, November 22nd, 2022, at 7:50 a.m., while performing Humane Handling Verification, SCMPID Area veterinarian, Dr. REDACTED, and IIC REDACTED, observed the following noncompliance. Establishment personnel failed to effectively produce immediate unconsciousness in a market swine that was stunned with a .22-gauge rifle bullet. Shot placement was precise but ineffective. After the initial stun attempt, the animal remained standing. Regulatory control action was not taken because the establishment employee took immediate corrective actions by effectively stunning the swine with a subsequent stun from a captive bolt device which produced immediate unconsciousness. Management was notified of the noncompliance at inspection.
