On Wednesday February 26, 2025, at approximately 7:00 am, while performing humane handling activities during slaughter operations, IIC REDACTED observed the following noncompliance: An employee moved one market hog to the stunning area, a single gunshot was deployed, and the hog was not rendered immediately unconscious. The same employee quickly delivered a second gunshot, and the animal was rendered unconscious without excitement or discomfort. Postmortem inspection identified two distinct points of entry in the hog’s skull. Regulatory action was not taken at the time of the noncompliance as plant operators properly followed procedures.
