On August 8, 2024, while performing Livestock humane handling task, HATS Category VI: Electric Prodding/Alternative Object Use, at approximately 1009 hours, I was at the stunning area and observed a cow enter the stunning area but quickly back up. I observed an establishment employee use an electrical prod on the cow approximately three times, causing the cow to vocalize multiple times. I intervened and observed another employee use the electrical prod on the same cow approximately four more times, leading to additional vocalizations, I halted this employee's actions and requested a supervisor, owner REDACTED arrived and was informed of the observation and the forthcoming noncompliance record. The establishment proposed corrective actions including slowing down operations and removing the electrical prod (hot shot) devices from the affected employees. The excessive use of the electrical prod did not adhere to the requirements of 9 CFR 313.2(b), which mandates that electric prods should be used as little as possible to minimize excitement. A review of the establishment noncompliance history failed to reveal a associated noncompliance record documented in the past 90 days.

On April 25, 2024 while performing Livestock humane handling task, HATS Category VI: Electric Prodding/Alternative Object Use, at approximately 0945 hours, I observed the following noncompliance: I, CSI REDACTED and SCSI REDACTED were at the drive lane right before the entrance to the knock box (stunning area), when we observed a establishment employee utilize a electric prod (hotshot) approximately 6 times on a black bull, the bull vocalized multiple times and IPP had to intervene to stop the establishment employee from utilizing the electric prod (hotshot) additionally. The establishment employee stopped, thereafter, the black bull on its own will entered the knock box to be stunned. Pens Supervisor REDACTED and Plant manager REDACTED were notified of what was observed and were notified of this forthcoming noncompliance record. A review of the establishment noncompliance record failed to reveal an associated noncompliance record documented in the past 90 days.
