Non-Compliance Description:

While I was conducting the HATS requirement for the Humane Handling Task, during the slaughter at 12:50 p.m. ,I witnessed a beef cattle slipped and fell in the pen, on the way to the knock box. The animal was not able to stand on its own, after repeated tries, and was immediately stunned effectively. The pens in that area are not covered and it had rained, and the pen floor was wet with standing water. The beef cattle had received ante-mortem prior to this event and was found acceptable. Plant squeegeed the ground to inhibit further slips and falls. § 313.1 Livestock pens, driveways, and ramps. (b) Floors of livestock pens, ramps, and driveways shall be constructed and maintained so as to provide good footing for livestock. Slip resistant or waffled floor surfaces, cleated ramps, and the use of sand, as appropriate, during winter months are examples of acceptable construction and maintenance. Plant owner, REDACTED, has been made aware of this non-compliance, and this report.
