Non-Compliance Description:

On Thursday, December 7, 2023 at approximately 7:07am, while conducting HATS category Handling During Ante-Mortem Inspection, the following noncompliance was observed by CSI REDACTED. There were two (2) holes in the wood that is attached in the alley way adjacent to and on the North side of the big holding pen. One hole is approximately 8"x10" and the second hole is approximately 10"x10". Both holes are approximately waste high. Both holes are big enough to where a bovine or sheep could get their head stuck resulting in injury to the animal. CSI REDACTED observed three bovine in the big holding pen and one bovine in the alley way at the time of inspection. No animals were observed sticking any body part through either of the holes, therefore, no animals were harmed at the time of ante-mortem inspection. CSI REDACTED verbally informed the establishment owner/manager, REDACTED of the non-compliance. Mr. REDACTED verbally informed CSI REDACTED that he will have an employee repair and/or replace the piece of wood that has holes in it after the animals have been moved out of the alley way and holding pen. There were no noncompliance records with the same root cause within the last 90 days. However, there is one prior non-compliance record, currently linked to this noncompliance record, that was written on March 28, 2023 regarding holes in the alley way. It appears that the management's previous corrective actions were ineffective and/or not implemented.
