Non-Compliance Description:

At approximately 0945 AM on June 28th, 2024 IPP observed the following humane handling noncompliance at Georgia Premium Meats #1052. Plant personnel brought the steer into the knock box. The employee proceeded to stun the steer by shooting a 30-30 rifle into the back of the head. The steer was not rendered unconscious and remained standing, no vocalization, so the employee took immediate corrective action by delivering a second shot to the steers head with the 30-30 rendering it unconscious. Two shots were verified postmortem inspection. This noncompliance violates 9 CFR 313.30 (a)(1). Plant management was notified verbally and in writing of this non-compliance.

Non-Compliance Description:

At approximately 0920 AM on May 9th, 2024 IPP observed the following humane handling noncompliance at Georgia Premium Meats #1052. Plant personnel brought the pig into the knock box. The pig’s movement was limited by use of two plastic panels. Electricity was used. The employee proceeded to stun the pig. The pig was not rendered unconscious, fell into lateral recumbency, vocalized, and had purposeful eye movement. The employee took immediate corrective action by delivering a shot to the pig’s head with the backup gun rendering it unconscious. This noncompliance violates 9 CFR 313.30 (a)(1). Plant management was notified verbally and in writing of this non-compliance.
