HATS category VIII: Stunning Effectiveness On 8/6/2024 at approximately 0730, while performing a Livestock Humane Handling task at Riverview Meat Co. est. M21190, the following was observed by CSI REDACTED The first bovine of the day was moved into the knock box and restrained with the head gate. The initial stun attempt with handheld captive bolt device (HHCB) was observed to contact the animal, but was ineffective, as the animal remained standing and had conscience eye tracking movement. The stun operator promptly reloaded the HHCB device and delivered immediate and effective corrective actions, rendering the animal insensible, and it remained so thereafter. The knock box/head restrainer was tagged with FSIS reject tag B23822644, and Ms. REDACTED establishment manager, was notified of this non-compliance and of the regulatory control action.

HATS category VIII: Stunning Effectiveness On 12/28/2023 at approximately 0953, while performing a Livestock Humane Handling task, at Riverview Meat Co. est. M21190, the following was observed by CSI REDACTED. On the second beef animal of this slaughter day, the first stunning attempt with a captive bolt stunner was ineffective. The bolt of the stunner penetrated the skull and blood was evident. The beef animal remained alert, evidenced by random eye movement, and remained standing. The company stun operator was immediately handed a second captive bolt stunner, which rendered the animal insensible to pain and remained so thereafter. At this time, plant manager Ms. REDACTED, was verbally notified of this noncompliance. The knock box/head restrainer was tagged with FSIS reject tag number B23822647.
