Hats Category VIII: Stunning Effectiveness On 7/30/2025 at approximately 0925 at Riverview Meat Co. est. M21190, while performing the Livestock Humane Handling task HATS Category VIII, I, CSI REDACTED, observed the following events. The establishment moved the second and last beef animal of this day into the stunning chute, and an initial stunning attempt was made with a handheld captive bolt device. The first attempt was observed to contact the animal but was ineffective as evidenced by the animal remaining standing and exhibited tracking eye movement. An immediate corrective action stun was made with a second captive bolt gun, effectively rendering the animal insensible to pain and it remained so thereafter. Immediate regulatory action was taken by placing FSIS reject tag number B23822822 on the stunning chute. Ms. REDACTED, plant manager, was notified of this noncompliance and of the regulatory control action.
