HATS Category VIII: Stunning Effectiveness While observing stunning operations at M45741 Down Home Processing, at approximately 0730, I, CSI REDACTED observed the following events. A beef cow was placed in the knock box and restrained with the head gate with the nose bar place over the nose. The stun operator proceeded to make the first stun attempt, with the handheld captive bolt (HHCB) device, which was observed to contact the animal, but was ineffective, as the animal remained standing. The stun operator delivered an immediate and effective corrective action stun with the HHCB device, rendering the animal insensible, and it remained so thereafter. At this point I applied USDA tag # B41458436 to the knock box and notified REDACTED Plant Manager, of the observed non-compliance and of the regulatory control action.
