HATS CATAGORY VIII Stunning Effectiveness During the PHV HATS visit, while stunning a beef animal with firearm (.410 shotgun), the following noncompliance occurred: The animal was loaded into the chute and upon initial stun attempt remained standing and vocalized. The stunning employee immediately took effective corrective action and applied an effective stun rendering the animal insensible. The animal remained in this state throughout the shackling and bleeding process. This is a noncompliance with 9CFR313.161) and (3).

HATS Category VIII Stunning Effectiveness On 04/08/25 at approximately 0845 the following noncompliance occurred. During firearm stunning of a beef animal the first stun was ineffective as evidenced by the animal regaining its footing. A second stun was administered, and the animal again was ineffectively stunned as evidenced by it again regaining its footing. The plant owner immediately took over the stunning procedures and effectively stunned the animal as evidenced by it falling to the floor and not showing any signs of sensibility. The animal remained insensible throughout the rest of the bleeding and slaughter process. This is not compliant with 9CFR313.16(a)(1) and (3) as well as 9CFR313.16(b)(1)(i) and (2).
