Non-Compliance Description:

HATS task #8: Stunning Effectiveness May 7, 2025 at 7:11am The first knock on a heifer was ineffective at rendering the animal unconscious. The heifer continued to stand and move about, blood was leaking from the knocking location in its head. Two employees tried to get the backup captive bolt to work but was not successful. Knocking Room lead REDACTED came in the room to assist. When he could not get the captive bolt gun to operate, he left the plant and retrieved the pistol from the office approximately 10 yards away. Upon returning to the Knocking Room, he fired a fatal blow to the bovine at 7:14am. As a result of this infraction, I CSI REDACTED placed US Reject tag #B20621988 to the Knock Box at 7:18am. I informed REDACTED Operations Manager of the tag and forthcoming noncompliance for failing to meet 9CFR 313.15(a)(1) and 9CFR 313.15(b)(1)(ii). This establishment does have in place a Robust Human Handling Program. No recent or similar Human Handling noncompliance’s within the last 90 days. The immediate and acceptable corrective action of keeping the pistol in the knocking room until changes are made to the backup knocking gun. A different grain of bullet has been purchased and are in route.
