Based on the US Census Bureau's special tabulation from the ACS 5-year estimates, in 2023, the citizen population for New York was 18,059,540 and represented 90.88% of the total New York population.

Among all New York counties, Kings had the highest citizen population (2.29M), followed by Queens (1.88M), and Suffolk (1.42M).
