Based on the US Census Vintage data estimates, in 2023, the Black or African American Alone population in Iowa was 144,668 and represented 4.51% of the total Iowa population (3,207,004).

Among Iowa counties, Polk County had the highest number of people who identified as Black or African American Alone (39,843), followed by Linn County (15,980), and Scott County (14,682). Davis County had the lowest (22).
