According to the US Census Bureau estimates, in 2016, the net migration rate per 1,000 population for the United States was 3.31. Florida had the highest net migration rate per 1,000 population (18.36), followed by Oregon (15.83), and Washington (13.37). On the other hand, Wyoming had the lowest net migration rate per 1,000 population (-6.96), followed by Illinois (-6.9), and North Dakota (-6.25).

Net migration rate for a state refers to the difference between the number of migrants, both domestic and international, moving to the state and those leaving the state per 1,000 of the state's mid-year population. A positive rate is known as a net immigration rate, and a negative rate is known as a net emigration rate.
